4x4" kiln formed glass coaster. This coaster features a Japanese Daruma Doll screen printed with red enamel onto opaque cyan blue glass, then fused in a kiln to about 1400 degrees. Each coaster has clear bumpers on the bottom to protect your surfaces. Daruma dolls are typically paper mache, and purchased on New Year's Day at Buddhist temples. When purchased, the figure's eyes are both blank. One chooses their goal or wish and paints in one of the figure's two eyes. Once the desired goal is achieved, the second eye is filled in. Daruma is closely associated with a beloved Japanese proverb, Nana korobi yaoki, which states, “Fall down seven times, get up eight”.
